The uterine body is surgically removed from the cervix which still extends into the vagina. The top of the cervix is surgically closed after the uterine body is removed preventing the sperm from entering the intra-abdominal cavity. As a result the sperm are contained within the remaining cervical "stump" or vagina and deteriorate naturally.
