Usually in such situations a different iron product is trialed, while a stool softener and increasing physical activities/ hydration should be optimized in order to combat constipation, a typical side effect of iron supplements.

The client can try the following, if that does not help treatment with intravenous iron would be an option. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948

Pl do not use the term 'client' for a patient. There are other iron supplements which can be taken. Or use a a stool softner if you want to continue the ferrous sulph
