Very brief antibiotic treatments for uncomplicated UTI (like 1 day and 3 days treatment) have been extensively researched. They often work, but UTI often recurs very rapidly. Five days is standard today -- although the official recommendations may differ in Germany. Discuss with your doctor.

The urine culture must confirm that the bacteria in the urine is sensitive to ciprofloxacin. Urine cultures usually take 24-48 hours. It is possible to have drug resistant bacteria. For a simple bladder infection, 3 days twice a day for females has been effective. For a kidney infection, 500mg twice a day for 5-7 days works.
