The urine culture must confirm that the bacteria in the urine is sensitive to ciprofloxacin. Urine cultures usually take 24-48 hours. It is possible to have drug resistant bacteria. For a simple bladder infection, 3 days twice a day for females has been effective. For a kidney infection, 500mg twice a day for 5-7 days works.
