A member asked:

Prescribed baclofen for low back pain which is caused by lumbar destabilization. wondering if there is a point in dosage where instead of relieving pain it can cause it by causing muscle weakness?

yes there is. But if prescribed by your MD the dose should be OK. You can also ask her/him for an alternate treatment or see a orthopedist. Hope you feel better

Baclofen is an anti-spasticity agent which can be used as a muscle relaxant, but at high dosing can overshoot and cause weakness. It does not relieve pain directly, as it is not an analgesic. If you do indeed have an unstable lumbar spine, this may be an indication for surgery. See an orthopedic spine surgeon, if not done previously.
