Does long covid mean covid is still active in the body or is it dead?

Long covid is a term applied to the remaining injury caused by active infection in the tissue/organ involved. I have seen no evidence that covid, an RNA virus can go dormant and reactivate like some DNA viruses, or that the survive after the immune system destroys the initial infection.
