A member asked:

If i take a small piece of 0.5 of my prescription xanex every night for 14 years and stop. will i have withdrawals? or is that too small of a dose? new dr says cant prescribe it?

The small amount in the question should not cause withdrawal symptoms when stopped. It is questionable whether the "small piece" of a "0.5 Xanex" will be effective in promoting sleep in any case, as accommodation to this dose usually negates the intended effect.

Agree with your new doctor, and your plan appears realistic. Xanax adversely affects stage IV sleep, and creates habituation and tolerance. Do not anticipate a true withdrawal issue.
