A member asked:

Will hiv antibody and antigen be conclusive after 24 days exposure?

Most HIV tests are for the antibody which takes 3-12 weeks to develop, known as the window period, during which prophylaxis is advised for a known exposure. A false negative within 3 months would need a repeat. The RNA test for HIV antigen ,is positive within 9-11 days of infection, while a NAT(antigen/antibody test takes 18-90 days.Good resources are the CDC,and the national HIV website.

If positive, it would be conclusive. A negative result at 24 days would not exclude HIV infection. Visit this site for info: HIV test window periods https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-testing/test-types.html
