For some one diagnosed with schizophrenia, is it a good idea to have that person tested for anti-nmda receptor encephalitis to rule out the root cause of psychosis or psychotic features of the illness?

It is best left up to the treating MD for he/she knows the pt. best. You can bring it up when you see the MD next

Encephalitis so far does not appear to cause schizophrenia and would expect this to be a fruitless quest
