How is brief psychotic disorder different from schizophrenia?

Deterioration: Brief psychoses are just that - brief. Psychotic episodes in schizophrenia cause deterioration mentally and lead to diminished functioning over time. That loss does not come back for the most part especially without psychiatric care. Brief psychotic disorders by definition have a beginning and end and don't often cause the kind of functional deterioration that psychosis in schizophrenia does.

Brief psychotic : Disorder is a psychosis lasting 1 to 30 days which happens suddenly and which ends in a full return to premorbid functioning. In schizophrenia, the psychosis lasts more than 30 days and frequently has a prodromal period and at least 6 months of functional decline.
