A member asked:

I was prescribed wellbutrin (extended release) but there wasn't 150 mg so doc gave me 300 mg and told me to cut it in half is that safe or will it effect the extended release?

It is not suitable to cut extended release pills. As you mentioned, it will defeat the "extended release" function.

As has been mentioned, an extended release pill should never be cut in half as it will not last the intended duration and may flood the system with much higher immediate dosing than intended by the manufacturer. Would contact your doctor and discuss this advice.
