A member asked:

I have partial bone on bone on my right knee.. i also have severe stenosis l2-3 & l 3-4. both my knees are hurting so bad and constantly are aching. could stenosis cause this because if so, why would it effect the knees with the pain & ache so bad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

L2, L3, and L4 are the nerves that supply the large stabilizing muscle of the knee called the quadriceps. When that muscle becomes weak from the pinched nerves, you lose stability of the knee causing sliding and grinding that leads to the knee arthritis. Additionally, L4 supplies sensation to the knee region. Therefore, stenosis causing compression of that nerve will cause pain in that knee.
