A member asked:

A few of my toenails are quite thick and yellow/brittle. i thought it was fungal but apparently not from lab tests. podiatrist says its nail dystrophy and is having me use urea otc. is nail dystrophy serious? will urea help? thanks so much?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Since onychomycosis( fungal infection) has been ruled out, I would suspect that chronic microtrauma to your toenails from foot wear or walking technique is responsible for your toenail thickening. Urea supposedly softens thickened toenails.
