Not so Fast....: Where and exactly how the specimen is harvested for culture is directly influenced by the experience of the physician harvesting the specimen. There is definitely a learning cure to be reckoned with. If the specimen was cut from the free edge, it often comes back normal. You need to have this done by a dermatologist that has experience in the procurement and handling of the specimen.
