Surgery may or may not help. Sit down with your Dr and do a risk benefit analysis and you can decide if you want it done.

Surgery should be last resort, and no guarantee that it would improve pain. Would first ascertain that all conservative measures are exhausted, such as physical therapy with motorized traction and McKenzie neck exercises. If you were to note increased weakness, muscle atrophy, bowel or bladder dysfunction, surgery would be indicated. See a physiatrist and start rehab program.
