A member asked:

Can a treatment for normal chlamydia cure the infection in the cervix but at the same time still have chlamydia in the upper genital tract (ugt)? can i test negative on chlamydia when a test is done in the cervix, but still have chlamydia in the ugt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Chlamydia is an ascending infection which means it starts and spreads from the lower genital tract (the cervix mainly). Allowing for a false negative test (which can never be completely eliminated) a negative cervical culture will reliably rule out an UGT infection.
