If you have a history of recurrent UTI, chance of bacterial resistance to bactrim, macrobid and quinolone is high. You need to have a urine culture done first then your doctor can start Augmentin, 500/125, one capsule, twice a day x 7 days. If you are allergic to Penicillin, your doctor can use second or third generation cephalosporins (less likely cross reaction), pending culture result.
