A member asked:

My father has protein c and s deficiency and takes blood thinner medication after a thrombosis (it runs in the family). what are my chances of having this deficiency if my mother doesnt have it? should i also test for this to prevent any problems?

If your father is homozygous and your mother is not even a carrier, you are heterozygous for the gene and have slightly increased risk of clots. Testing is not warranted. If you need any surgery or other procedures, let you doctor know that you may be heterozygote for the deficiency. Wish you good health!
