Talk to doc: At your age, the risk for cancer is low, even if there is a "bad gene" in the family. There are exceptions to this, though, so I would advise you talk to your doc and be referred to a genetics specialist who will interview you and get a full family history to determine what test (if any) needs to be done and tell you what you can do to reduce your cancer risk. Hope you do great.

Father needs test: There are cancer syndromes that run in families. Depending on the type of cancers that run in your family, genetic testing can be done to identify if your family is affected. If so, you can be tested for the genetic alteration, and appropriate recommendations can be made. Since your father has now been diagnosed, he could be tested. So could other members of your family affected by cancer.
