A subdural hematoma describes bleeding underneath the dura mater covering the brain. Bilateral describes such a process on both sides. Most often this is due to head injury but not always, as hematological and deficient clotting issues can promote bleeding, and this can be experienced when taking anticoagulants. If there is a question of causation, a full evaluation is necessitated.

Subdural hematomas are usually caused by a head injury. The time of surgery should not be an issue and would depend on what was done. Most of the time emergency surgery is not required unless patient is in a coma.
