I had a steroid injection at base of r thumb for trigger thumb today. my thumb still locks and i'm wondering if this means the injection did not work. how long until cortisone kicks-in and stops the thumb triggering and locking?

And usually takes anywhere from 2 to 5 days for the steroid to work. Sometimes it can take 1 to 2 weeks to see results. If the phone is still triggering but your pain is better that is a good sign. However if it is still locking then surgery would be the next step to free it up.
