A member asked:

What does it mean when your tympanic membrane has ruptured and your ear smells, but it looks clean when examined with an otoscope?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If the ENT doesn't see pus.then the odor most likely is coming from the ear canal which may have some inflammation and/ irritation. Moisture in the ear canal can cause an odor also. There are prescription ear drops that treat this otitis externa. Your ENT can advise you best though.
