If symptoms have been ongoing for more than several weeks, I recommend consulting a neurosurgeon for treatment options of the herniated discs. Check serum levels of calcium & magnesium as deficiencies of these can cause diffuse muscle twitching.

If the herniated discs are compressing nerve roots resulting in radicular pain, the twitching could be a manifestation of fasciculations secondary to this. An EMG/ NCS study could sort this out. Perhaps conservative physical therapy is the best approach, as, over time, in absence of additional trauma, ruptured discs may desiccate and shrink. Agree with neurosurgical consult.
