Laser raised scar: Hypertrophic scars/keloids can respond to treatment with a pulse dye laser (pdl). Pdl treats redness and works well when combined with cortisone injections. Co2 lasers burn tissue. Co2 laser can reduce the size of a scar temporarily but studies show scars uniformly regrow after co2 laser. Also since keloids can get worse with trauma, co2 laser is probably not a good treatment for keloids.

What it targets!: Lasers work by heating a target based on the wavelength of the laser. Targets can be blood vessels, pigment or water. A pulse dye laser is considered the laser of choice for most vascular lesions. In contrast a co2 laser is an ablative laser & is used to vaporizes the skin for resurfacing wrinkles & scars. Both have been used for raised scars. A non ablative micropulsed ndyag laser also works well.
