Do you have a red hot sore throat or an irritated one along with the dry mouth from mouth breathing while asleep? If it's a definite prolonged sore throat a throat culture is advisable to determine whether there's strep or other pathogens present. If you're a smoker I .recommend seeing an ENT specialist directly for a thorough .evaluation & advice.
