Don't know: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test & culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat. Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey & a small amt of lemon juice helps.

Virus likely: This is most likely a viral infection which runs its course in several days; however if the throat symptoms worsen instead of gradually improving,get a rapid throat culture to make sure that it's not a strep throat as this requires antibiotic treatment whereas viral infections don't. In the meantime gargle with warm salt water and use throat lozenges for relief.

Allergies: And lack of moisture causes sore throats due to post nasal drip. There is now OTC Nasocort, which will help with the post-nasal-drip. Then try Ayr Saline Gel nasal spray before bed at night, and just regular nasal spray any time you are feeling congested or dry. Unless you gave a high fever, for more than a couple days it is likely NOT an infectious problem, but a MOISTURE problem.
