The BMI is based on the idea that everyone has the same muscle and bone mass/height and all excess is fat. It is a good gauge of general populations but less so for individuals and especially athletes. I would discuss any such concerns with your doc. If you have a solid muscle mass you will likely never be properly guided by BMI alone.

My advice is no. Wait till you have finished growing & then work on weight. In those over 18 having a BMI of less than 25 all of your life is associated with the great long term health benefits: less HBP, DM, stroke, and heart problems. Losing weight to get to this BMI has not been tested to see if it help improve health. In contrast getting a BP above 130 lower has been shown to improve health
