The symptoms you are describing is defined as a ‘hemianopia’. In order to confirm or exclude potential damage to the visual pathways, you need to undergo a comprehensive ophthalmology examination with perimetry (also known as visual field testing). This test is performed in the doctors office and only takes a few minutes to complete. Please schedule an appointment soon.

As mentioned, if this is intermittent, the most likely cause is migraine, and ocular involvement as described, is consistent with the Classical variant. If constant, and progressive, this needs a thorough evaluation, perhaps by both ophthalmology and neurology.

Without knowing more exact location, frequency, intensity and onset, it's not possible to diagnose. However, if this is a new and worsening change, get evaluated immediately. If this is a longstanding consistent issue, you should still see an ophthalmologist but it's not as urgent.
