A member asked:

How long can it take for numb feeling in lower leg through to big toe to go away when caused by sciatica? this symptom along with ankle bone pain is lasting longer than the usual pain in the hip/thigh area. had on and off since epidural for c-section?

My rule of thumb is if sciatica is still problematic after 6 weeks, i recommend an MRI of the lumbosacral spine and/ referral to a neurosurgeon for evaluation and treatment options.

Persistence of numbness and pain in the leg may well be secondary to sciatica, and the cause can be due to disc rupture, or nerve issues in buttock or further down leg. It would be valuable at this point, to see your doctor and consider MRI of low back, and possible EMG studies.
