A member asked:

I had a plate and 7 screws removed from my ankle one week ago, 3 years after a fracture. i am weight bearing from start, but was sent home with a boot. i have been walking also without it. is there any benefit to the boot other than added protection?

Removal of "plate and screws 3 years after fracture" should not require a boot, so the protection accorded is general prophylactic in anticipation of over enthusiastic activity post removal of stabilizing from plate/screws.

The boot protects the incision and takes stress off the ankle. There is a low chance of fracture through the screw holes until they fill in with new bone
