A head injury can be dangerous so it is safer to make an error on the side of caution. At 88 years old falling & hitting your head on the floor has a high potential of being a serious matter. Therefore under these circumstances I suggest you immediately get to an Urgent Care Center or Emergency Room for an exam & the examining physician will determine how long to monitor you. Be well!

As long as it takes. That is determined based on early medical assessment, findings on exam with changes in time and many times imaging in dynamics as bleeding for example is tightly followed until believed to have stopped or addressed surgically.

I wouldn't monitor them very long at all. If you are truly that concerned, you should go to your closest ER and get seen and possibly a head scan.
