A member asked:

I had an episode of orthostatic hypotension, fell, and hit the back of my head on the hardwood. the blow wasn't hard and i think i caught much of the impact on my elbow. i feel fine but scared and anxious. visit the er or monitor?

Sounds like a pre-syncopal event, and unlikely that you sustained any consequential head injury. Not clear why you would feel the need to visit an ER. Instead, contact your doctor about your episode and devise a preventative program. Could this be improved in the future by more conscientious hydration throughout the day?

Orthostatic hypotension is a symptom, not a cause. The question becomes, why the fall and the low blood pressure. Many physiological factors are in play and evaluation of various glands & organs should be performed under the direction of an internal medicine specialist. The clinical problem could be multifactorial. Drivers licenses become worrisome in people who temp. lose consciousness.
