Could be from the virus, a bacterial infection, trauma, neurologic disorder, muscle strain, and so many other possibilities. If it persists, especially isn it worsens, see a Physician.

Hello. It sounds like you are exhibiting reactive lymphadenopathy. The lymph nodes help clear infection. Take some Motrin as directed with food for a few days. If no change or it worsens, see your doctor. This is quite common following an upper airway infection. I hope this helps.

If tenderness persists or get worse and you see the front of your neck is swollen, subacute thyroiditis due to viral infection (de Quervain’s thyroiditis) may be the cause and you should see your doctor by then.
