All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, what is your total lymphocyte count Smudge cells could be due to faulty technique in making a smear. Wish you good health!

Smudge cells are usually remnants of white blood cells called lymphocytes. Smudge cells can also be artifacts of slide making. CLL cases can have smudge cells but this by itself is not a criterion for diagnosis. Consult your doctor for further testing in the context of your clinical symptoms, physical findings, and other blood testing. Good luck.
