A member asked:

I was diagnosed with cll 10 years ago, two years ago my white cell count rose to 84. over the last 2 years it has come down to 54. what does this mean?

Need information: In CLL, there is an overgrowth of lymphocytes which do not function normally against infection. Normal counts are 4 to 11 K/mcl, so both 84 and 54 are very elevated. The drop in count could suggest that the disease is improved, but one needs to also consider the anemia and platelet counts, a person's energy level, weight loss, night sweats, and signs of infection to draw conclusion.
