The itching may have been tinea cruris (jock itch), but the discoloration may be a different problem. You could try an over-the-counter cream for fungal infection (look in the same pharmacy section as medications for athlete's foot). If that doesn't help after a few days, or if itching resolves but no change in color, you'll need to get medical care in person for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

The discoloration is probably from scratching the area. The best jock itch creams are over the counter and cheap. Lamisil cream or Lotrimin cream should fix you up in a week or so if you use it daily.
