Estrogen has been implicated as the causative agent in thromboembolic episodes in women of this age. The higher the amount of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) the more risky, especially in the presence of other risk factors such as obesity, smoking, sedentary lifestyle. My suggestion if you have a family history or are at high risk is to use an oral contraceptive that contains only progesterone.
