Often different terms can be used to describe the same thing. If someone has a "fatty liver" usually you do see "increased echogenicity" on ultrasound. Though not entirely "specific" it usually is due to fatty infiltration of liver. So although different words are used here, they likely are referring to the same phenomenon. Overuse of liver, sometimes from alcohol consumption may be a cause.
