In an prepubertal child who has had a severe illness, catch up growth happens very commonly. You can help the process by providing a diet high in good quality protein (lean poultry, fish, beef), fresh fruits and vegetables, and lots of fresh water. Sleep is also very important (10 hours is normal at this age).
