My son began symptoms on tuesday with a cough. thursday, small fever. tested positive for covid on friday. his fever is slightly higher now, 101.6 with more fatigue. should i be concerned? what can i do at home to relieve his symptoms?

Keep your son well hydrated, treat fever with Tylenol, and allow him to rest. Avoid exertion, observe his respiratory effort. He may take some time to resolve his symptoms. If he has difficulty breathing, please see the Emergency Department. If the cough is prolonged, a chest image is recommended.

While most 8 year old children with Covid will not become seriously ill, he should be seen at a facility or physician familiar with Covid. Contact your local health department for advice about your son infecting others, particularly anyone that has not had Covid immunization. All contacts in the home should be fully immunized with one of the Covid vaccines. Greatest danger is to others contacted
