I saw multiple small red bits in my stool and when i pressed them with toilet paper, they spread/dissolved leaving a bright red streak on the toilet paper. could it be tomato flakes or is it blood in my stool?

Tomato skin would not dissolve. You can buy a kit from your pharmacy to test your stool for blood. It would be better to see your doctor for an examination as even simple hemorrhoids can enough blood loss to result in anemia.
