Confirmed “strep” throat? Many people (and doctors) conclude its Strep throat just by looking and seeing pus. Not necessarily true. Several viruses can produce “pus” in the back of the throat - and they don’t respond to an antibiotic. Real strep throat should feel better 2-3 days after starting penicillin. Removing tonsils depends on how frequently you experience recurrences. Uncommon now

Agree with Dr. Lentnek. Please followup with your doctor. Mono is one of the common viruses that occur and present this way. Even if the strep test was positive, both could be present. Continue the antibiotics meanwhile, but would recommend getting tested for mono and evaluated to make sure there is not an abscess (which could also be a reason you’re not improving).
