A member asked:

What is the chance of brain damage from a mild breakthrough case covid-19? i lost my sense of smell and taste partially, for a few days but it soon began to return. does this mean i had brain damage? can that damage heal?

It is unlikely that you suffered brain damage from the infection. The loss of smell and taste is mostly due to effect on the infection on olfactory receptors in the nose. Regular aerobic exercise will improve your health, including brain health! Take Covid-19 vaccine.

Glad it was a mild case. “Breakthrough” suggests that you were already fully vaccinated but contracted a case of Covid anyway. I’m sure you’re aware by now that this is not unexpected, however annoying. Even though the olfactory nerve is involved in the temporary loss of smell and taste, it does not seem to be associated with any sort of persistent brain damage. Glad you’re feeling better now
