A member asked:

Ive been wearing a surgical mask for a long time, but some people around me say that the sides of their surgical masks has tiny gaps. theyve been using the same mask for almost a year, and theyre okay. is it really ok..?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Masks that many people use as "surgical masks" are designed to keep a surgeons breath/spit out of the surgical field & lower infection risk. They have minimal effectiveness in screening out tiny viruses. The N95 masks used in the ICU's are significantly better. The best way to protect yourself/family is to get the vaccine and remain vigilant. Good masks have 1/20 or less benefit than vaccine.
