The correlation between "palpitaions" and an abnormal rhythm detected by the ECG is not perfect. This may be because abnormal rhyhtm consisting of isolated premature beats may not always be felt by the patient, but when they occur frequently, the patient is more likely to feel them. This is one reason why clinicians order a Holter monitor even when the patient is not aware of an arrhythmia.
