A member asked:

Does the production of hsv2 antibodies mean you are infected with the virus or is it possible for a positive hsv2 blood test to mean you were solely exposed to the virus but not infected with it?

Repeat question, see previous reply. There are no infections of any kind for which a blood test detects only exposure. A positive results whether for HSV2 or anything else, always indicates infection has occurred. For some, the infection is now gone. But some infections are lifelong, including HSV2. So a positive result shows infection occurred and persists.

Antibodies reflect previous exposure/ infection with the understanding that many cases may be asymptomatic or not perceived at the time they happen.

If have antibodies, you got infected and have virus in your body for the rest of your life. You can transmit to other even when there are no visible lesions. Inform your sex partners. Your doctor can prescribe medication to control eruptions. Get HPV and Covid Vaccines. Wish you good health!
