Cough is a protective mechanism of our body to get rid the bad stuffs. Frequent cough does not hurt your lungs but it can cause abdominal and chest wall soreness.

Cough itself will not hurt your lungs and is not dangerous in and of itself, as long as you can catch your breath, are not turning blue, or passing out. Is it keeping you from getting sleep. But you should investigate its underlying cause with your doctor. Could be asthma or allergies or new environmental exposures; or could be a viral infection or TB (might need Chest Xray & skin test).
