A member asked:

What are the symptoms of having a vertical meniscus tear in the knee? is a vertical tear the same as a bucket handle tear?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Person with vertical meniscus tear feels comfortable when the knee is slightly bent. Complete straightening is difficult and painful. Pain can be felt on pressure through the joint line in front. Swelling of joint. Bucket handle tear is a vertical tear through the outer part of the meniscus and attachment remains intact. Locked knee is the added symptom. Hope it helps.
