This is a common issue in kids who have chronically retained/avoided going. The behavior balloons the final segment of colon, sensitivity declines and they leak. Return to normal function can take a year working with a pedi or pedi GI doc who understands chronic stool retention/constipation. Get her evaluated. I have seen it often but some docs have no clue.

You don't need to worry, but you are not going to ignore this either. The vast majority of causes for this developing at her age revolve around some reason for chronic constipation. It could be related to diet, to holding in stools at school cuz she doesn't want to poop at school,to having hard/painful stools. You need to treat this, but also figure out the initial cause and address this as well!
