This doesn't sound abnormal. Ribs and chest structure can modify naturally with time and aging. This doesn't sound at all like bone cancer. But see a doctor if you remain concerned.

I have a lump on my left rib with pain in my back and upper left side. The lump is not as hard as bone, but doesn't feel like a fatty tumor.
