Pain receptors when activated send a message to the brain. In the brain, pain messages can be amplified (such as with previous sensitization) or diminished (such as when other messages are more frequent.) Because of this, Pain control can be affected by increasing other stimuli and by biofeedback mechanisms which desensitize. Talk to a pain control Dr for further evaluation.
